The legal profession involves serious emotional, ethical, financial, and workload challenges beyond just the desire to be successful in cases. The quick and easy successes shown in movies often do not reflect reality and simplify the difficulties of being a lawyer. In this blog, we will reveal the social realities of the legal profession that are not shown in the movies below.

The Lengthy and Complex Legal Process

The legal process in real life may require complex and long efforts. There may be many documents, laws, contracts, and a rush back and forth between different courts. Although this process in the movies is generally easily resolved in the movies but preparation processes in real life can take weeks and months.

The speeches made by lawyers in the court hearing in the series, which lack legal content, are emotionally intense. However, in real life, courtroom discussions are generally not about emotional intensity, but about legal content. In the legal scenes in the series, no attention is paid to the difficult path of obtaining the legal content, but a real, consistent, and useful and reality-revealing trial goes through a long preparation process.

The Hard Work Behind the Scenes

Obtaining and revealing evidence that is beneficial to reality is not easy all the time. The focus is only on the exciting workload of lawyers, which is usually the courtroom in the movies. However, being a lawyer is a profession that involves long working hours such as meeting with clients, reading case files for hours, making analyses, and drawing conclusions, and is always tiring for the mind.  It is a profession that involves a lot of paperwork.

Long Working Hours and Strict Deadlines

The legal profession requires very long working hours and very strict deadlines by a heavy workload. They must follow these deadlines daily and avoid making mistakes. Missing deadlines by even one hour can have irreversible consequences. They do not have a 9/5 routine as they try to deal with emotionally intense and complex cases. They also try to deal with the stress and pressure that spreads throughout the day.

Challenges with Collecting Legal Fees

Lawyers in the series never have trouble collecting their fees. However, lawyers in the real life may have trouble when they are collecting fees from their clients. In addition, lawyers who work independently or in small offices may have difficulty covering their expenses as a result of long-lasting cases.

We suggest that court and lawyers scenes of the movies should be brought closer to reality. Obtaining legal advice to correct mistakes such as incorrect terms used in the series and actions contrary to a court order.

Conclusion

As a result, the legal profession is a process that resolves complex and full of difficulties in real life, unlike the quick and easy successes in the movies. Factors such as very long working hours, high stress and pressure, and depth of legal processes require lawyers to pursue their profession not only as a career but also as a lifestyle that requires great responsibility and dedication. The idealized lawyer scenes of the movies remain far from reflecting the true face of the profession. Therefore, more attention and care should be taken to make lawyer scenes more realistic and accurately reflect the social reality of the legal world.
